Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch (for extra tenderness)
  • 2 tablespoons milk (if needed, to soften dough)

For Decorating:

  • Pink, red, and white sprinkles
  • Melted white or dark chocolate for drizzling
  • Heart-shaped candies

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, beat butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy (2-3 minutes).
  3. Mix in vanilla and almond extract.
  4. Sift together flour, cornstarch, and salt. Gradually add to the butter mixture, mixing until combined.
  5. If dough is too stiff, mix in 1-2 tablespoons of milk until soft enough to pipe.

Step 2: Shape the Cookies

  • For Piped Swirls: Transfer dough to a piping bag with a star tip and pipe small rosettes onto the lined baking sheet.
  • For Cut-Out Cookies: Roll dough ¼-inch thick, cut into hearts, and place on the sheet.

Step 3: Add Sprinkles & Bake

  1. Decorate with Valentine sprinkles before baking.
  2. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until edges are lightly golden.
  3. Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Step 4: Decorate & Serve

  1. Drizzle cooled cookies with melted chocolate and add more sprinkles or heart-shaped candies.
  2. Let the chocolate set before serving.

Notes

  • Use Room Temperature Butter – Ensures smooth, easy mixing.
  • For Extra Soft Cookies – Add an extra tablespoon of cornstarch.
  • Chill the Dough (If Rolling Out) – Prevents spreading while baking.
  • For a Fun Twist – Add a drop of pink food coloring for a festive touch!
