Ingredients

Scale

For the Shrimp Cakes:

  • 1 lb raw shrimp, peeled, deveined, and chopped
  • ½ cup panko breadcrumbs (or regular breadcrumbs)
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning (or Cajun seasoning for extra spice)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (or cilantro)
  • 1 green onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (for frying)

For the Aioli:

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)

Instructions

Step 1: Make the Shrimp Cake Mixture

  1. Chop shrimp into small pieces (or pulse in a food processor for a finer texture).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine chopped shrimp, breadcrumbs, egg, mayonnaise, mustard, seasonings, lemon juice, parsley, and green onion.
  3. Mix well until the ingredients hold together.
  4. Form into 6-8 small patties (about ½-inch thick).

Step 2: Cook the Shrimp Cakes

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Cook the shrimp cakes for 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through.
  3. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Step 3: Make the Aioli

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, garlic, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, salt, and cayenne pepper (if using).
  2. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Step 4: Serve & Enjoy!

  1. Plate the shrimp cakes with a side of aioli and garnish with extra parsley and lemon wedges.
  2. Serve warm with a salad, roasted veggies, or in a sandwich!

Notes

  • Use Fresh or Frozen Shrimp – If using frozen, thaw and pat dry before chopping.
  • Chill Before Frying – Helps the patties hold their shape.
  • Don’t Overcook – Shrimp cooks quickly; keep an eye on them!
  • For Extra Crunch – Use panko breadcrumbs for a crispier texture.
