For the Banana Bread:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon (optional, but adds warmth)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 large ripe bananas, mashed (about 1½ cups)
  • ¼ cup plain yogurt or sour cream (for extra moisture)

For the Salted Caramel Sauce:

  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt

For the Topping:

  • Extra caramel sauce for drizzling
  • A sprinkle of flaky sea salt

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Oven & Pan

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.

Step 2: Make the Caramel Sauce

  1. In a small saucepan, melt the sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly until it turns golden brown.
  2. Add the butter and stir until melted.
  3. Slowly pour in the heavy cream, stirring continuously. Be careful—it may bubble up!
  4. Remove from heat and stir in sea salt. Let it cool slightly.

Step 3: Mix the Dry Ingredients

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. Set aside.

Step 4: Mix the Wet Ingredients

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together melted butter and brown sugar until smooth.
  2. Add eggs and vanilla extract, mixing well.
  3. Stir in mashed bananas and yogurt (or sour cream) until combined.

Step 5: Combine Wet & Dry Ingredients

  1. Gently fold in the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.

Step 6: Layer & Swirl the Caramel

  1. Pour half of the batter into the loaf pan.
  2. Drizzle half of the caramel sauce over the batter and swirl gently with a knife.
  3. Pour in the remaining batter and drizzle the rest of the caramel on top. Swirl again.

Step 7: Bake the Banana Bread

  1. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 8: Drizzle with Extra Caramel & Serve

  1. Once cooled, drizzle with more salted caramel sauce and a sprinkle of flaky sea salt before serving.

Notes

  • Use Ripe Bananas – The riper, the better! Brown, spotty bananas add natural sweetness.
  • Don’t Overmix – Stir just until combined for a tender, fluffy texture.
  • Caramel Tips – If your caramel hardens while cooling, reheat it for a few seconds before drizzling.
  • Add Nuts – Chopped pecans or walnuts add great crunch and flavor!
