Ingredients
For the Biscuits:
-
2 cups all-purpose flour
-
1 tbsp baking powder
-
1 tsp garlic powder
-
½ tsp baking soda
-
½ tsp salt
-
½ cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
-
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
-
¾ cup cold buttermilk (or ¾ cup milk + 1 tbsp lemon juice or vinegar)
For the Garlic Butter Topping:
-
3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
-
½ tsp garlic powder
-
½ tsp dried parsley (or 1 tsp fresh)
-
Pinch of salt
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
-
Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
-
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
Step 2: Mix the Dry Ingredients
-
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, garlic powder, baking soda, and salt.
Step 3: Cut in the Butter
-
Add cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture.
-
Use a pastry cutter or fork to blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
-
Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese.
Step 4: Add Buttermilk
-
Pour in the cold buttermilk and stir until just combined.
-
Do not overmix—the dough should be slightly sticky.
Step 5: Scoop & Bake
-
Use a spoon or cookie scoop to drop 10–12 mounds of dough onto the prepared baking sheet.
-
Bake for 12–14 minutes, or until tops are golden and biscuits are cooked through.
Step 6: Brush with Garlic Butter
-
While biscuits are baking, melt butter in a small bowl.
-
Stir in garlic powder, parsley, and a pinch of salt.
-
As soon as the biscuits come out of the oven, brush generously with the garlic butter.
Step 7: Serve Warm
-
Let biscuits cool for 2–3 minutes, then serve warm with your favorite main dish or as a snack.
Notes
Keep the Butter Cold – Cold butter = fluffy, layered texture.
Don’t Overmix – Stir just until ingredients come together to avoid dense biscuits.
Use Fresh Cheddar – Grating your own cheese melts better and gives richer flavor.
Customize the Cheese – Try a mix of sharp cheddar and Monterey Jack for extra flavor.
Double the Garlic Butter – If you’re a garlic lover, make a little extra for dipping.
