Ingredients

Scale

For the Biscuits:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tbsp baking powder

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • ½ tsp baking soda

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ½ cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

  • ¾ cup cold buttermilk (or ¾ cup milk + 1 tbsp lemon juice or vinegar)

For the Garlic Butter Topping:

  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

  • ½ tsp garlic powder

  • ½ tsp dried parsley (or 1 tsp fresh)

  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

Step 2: Mix the Dry Ingredients

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, garlic powder, baking soda, and salt.

Step 3: Cut in the Butter

  1. Add cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture.

  2. Use a pastry cutter or fork to blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  3. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese.

Step 4: Add Buttermilk

  1. Pour in the cold buttermilk and stir until just combined.

  2. Do not overmix—the dough should be slightly sticky.

Step 5: Scoop & Bake

  1. Use a spoon or cookie scoop to drop 10–12 mounds of dough onto the prepared baking sheet.

  2. Bake for 12–14 minutes, or until tops are golden and biscuits are cooked through.

Step 6: Brush with Garlic Butter

  1. While biscuits are baking, melt butter in a small bowl.

  2. Stir in garlic powder, parsley, and a pinch of salt.

  3. As soon as the biscuits come out of the oven, brush generously with the garlic butter.

Step 7: Serve Warm

  1. Let biscuits cool for 2–3 minutes, then serve warm with your favorite main dish or as a snack.

Notes

Keep the Butter Cold – Cold butter = fluffy, layered texture.

Don’t Overmix – Stir just until ingredients come together to avoid dense biscuits.

Use Fresh Cheddar – Grating your own cheese melts better and gives richer flavor.

Customize the Cheese – Try a mix of sharp cheddar and Monterey Jack for extra flavor.

Double the Garlic Butter – If you’re a garlic lover, make a little extra for dipping.
