Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional, for extra chocolatey goodness)
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the Oven and Prepare the Pan
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a 9×9-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal of the brownies.
Step 2: Mix Wet Ingredients
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and sugar until smooth.
- Add the eggs and vanilla extract. Whisk until fully incorporated.
Step 3: Add Dry Ingredients
- Sift together the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder in a separate bowl.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
Step 4: Add Chocolate Chips (Optional)
- If you want extra chocolatey brownies, fold in the chocolate chips at this point.
Step 5: Bake
- Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread it out evenly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes. For fudgier brownies, bake for 20 minutes; for a more cakey texture, bake closer to 25 minutes.
- Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center of the brownies. If it comes out with a few moist crumbs, the brownies are done. If it comes out wet, bake for a few more minutes.
Step 6: Cool and Serve
- Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes before cutting into squares.
- Serve as is, or top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of chocolate sauce for extra indulgence.
Notes
- Don’t overmix the batter: Overmixing can result in denser brownies. Mix just until combined for a chewy texture.
- For extra richness: Substitute half of the sugar with brown sugar for a slightly caramel-like flavor.
- Fudgy vs. cakey: Adjust the baking time to suit your preference. A shorter bake time will yield fudgier brownies, while a longer bake time will make them cakier.
- Add-ins: Try adding chopped nuts, marshmallows, or even swirls of peanut butter for extra flavor and texture.
