Ingredients
Main Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef – Use lean beef for less grease.
- 3 medium russet or Yukon gold potatoes, diced into small cubes
- 1 tablespoon olive oil – For sautéing.
- 1 small onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ teaspoon salt – Enhances the flavors.
- ½ teaspoon black pepper – For a subtle kick.
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika – Adds a warm, smoky depth.
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano – Brings in a hint of earthiness.
- ½ teaspoon chili powder (optional) – For a little spice!
Optional Additions:
- 1 cup frozen peas or corn – For extra color and sweetness.
- ½ cup shredded cheese – Cheddar or Monterey Jack for a creamy finish.
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley – For a fresh touch.
Instructions
Step 1: Cook the Potatoes
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the diced potatoes and cook for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they start to soften and turn golden brown. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
Step 2: Brown the Ground Beef
- In the same skillet, add the ground beef and break it apart with a spatula.
- Cook for 5-7 minutes, until browned and no longer pink. Drain excess grease if needed.
Step 3: Sauté the Aromatics
- Add onion and garlic to the beef. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
- Stir in salt, pepper, smoked paprika, oregano, and chili powder (if using).
Step 4: Combine Everything
- Return the cooked potatoes to the skillet and stir well.
- Cook for 3-5 more minutes, letting the flavors meld together.
Step 5: Add Optional Ingredients & Serve
- Stir in peas or corn, if using, and cook for another 2 minutes.
- Sprinkle with cheese and cover for 1-2 minutes until melted.
- Garnish with chopped parsley and serve warm.
Notes
Dice the Potatoes Evenly – This ensures they cook at the same rate.
Use a Hot Pan – Helps the potatoes get crispy.
Season to Taste – Add more spices or herbs to match your preferences.
Make it a One-Pot Meal – Add bell peppers, mushrooms, or spinach for extra nutrients.
