Ingredients

Scale

For the Bread Pudding:

  • 4 cups cubed bread (French, brioche, or challah)
  • 1 ½ cups milk (or half-and-half for extra richness)
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ⅔ cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups peaches, peeled and sliced (fresh or canned, drained)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

For the Topping (Optional):

  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon

For Serving (Optional):

  • Whipped cream
  • Caramel sauce
  • Vanilla ice cream

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat & Prepare the Bread

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. Place bread cubes in the baking dish. If using day-old bread, let it sit for 10 minutes to absorb more custard.

Step 2: Make the Custard Mixture

  1. In a bowl, whisk together milk, heavy cream, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  2. Pour the mixture evenly over the bread, pressing down slightly to soak the bread.

Step 3: Add the Peaches

  1. Gently fold peach slices into the mixture. Drizzle with melted butter for extra richness.

Step 4: Bake the Bread Pudding

  1. Sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon (optional for extra sweetness).
  2. Bake for 40-45 minutes, until golden brown and set.

Step 5: Serve & Enjoy!

  1. Let cool for 5 minutes, then serve warm with whipped cream, caramel sauce, or ice cream.

Notes

  • Use Day-Old Bread – Slightly stale bread absorbs the custard better.
  • Don’t Overmix the Peaches – Gently fold them in to keep them from breaking.
  • For Extra Crunch – Add chopped pecans or walnuts on top before baking.
  • For a Boozy Twist – Add 1 tablespoon bourbon or rum to the custard.
