Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup orzo pasta
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups chicken broth (or vegetable broth)
  • ½ cup heavy cream (or half-and-half for a lighter option)
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Optional Additions:

  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (for spice)
  • ½ cup sautéed mushrooms or spinach (for extra veggies)
  • ½ cup cooked chicken or shrimp (for a protein boost)

Instructions

Step 1: Sauté the Garlic

  1. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
  2. Add minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.

Step 2: Toast the Orzo & Simmer

  1. Stir in orzo pasta and toast for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  2. Pour in chicken broth, stirring to combine.
  3. Bring to a simmer and cook for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the orzo is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed.

Step 3: Make It Creamy & Cheesy

  1. Lower heat to medium-low and stir in heavy cream, Parmesan cheese, salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning.
  2. Stir until the sauce thickens and coats the orzo.

Step 4: Serve & Enjoy!

  1. Remove from heat and garnish with fresh parsley and extra Parmesan.
  2. Serve warm as a side dish or a main course.

Notes

Toast the Orzo First – Adds a nutty depth of flavor.
Use Fresh Garlic – Enhances the overall richness.
For a Lighter Version – Swap heavy cream for whole milk or half-and-half.
Use Fresh Parmesan – It melts better and adds a richer taste.
