Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup powdered sugar (for rolling)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  1. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, mix granulated sugar, brown sugar, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until a thick dough forms.
  4. Cover the dough and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (or overnight) to firm up.

Step 2: Shape and Coat

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Scoop the chilled dough into 1-inch balls and roll them in powdered sugar until fully coated.
  3. Place the balls on the baking sheet, about 2 inches apart.

Step 3: Bake and Cool

  1. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until the cookies puff up and develop cracks on top.
  2. Let them cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Notes

  • Chill the Dough: This prevents the cookies from spreading too much while baking.
  • Roll Twice in Powdered Sugar: For extra contrast, coat the dough balls once, wait a minute, then roll again.

  • Don’t Overbake: The cookies should look slightly underdone when removed—they will firm up as they cool.
